Curiosity – The Wick in the Candle of Difficult Conversations

As someone once said, curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning. It’s also a very useful mindset to activate when having a sticky conversation. Unfortunately our natural tendency when confronted with a difficult conversation is to turn our attention inwards which stops us being curious and asking questions like, how does the other person see things or how have things affected them. Instead we temporarily lose that natural child-like curiosity and as a result end up having a series of unproductive monologues with the other person which gets us nowhere.
