As a Mediator

Mediation is a unique approach to resolving conflict where a specially trained independent person, (that’s me), facilitates a conversation between parties in conflict (that could be you). The aim is to help you reach an outcome that satisfies your respective mutual interests.

My role as mediator isn’t to pass any judgment or decide who is right and who is wrong but rather to help you focus on the things that are important so that any solution you create satisfies your interests.

It’s a very effective approach and has proved successful in almost 90% of conflicts and disputes.

What makes mediation so unique is that the parties in the conflict are handed control and responsibility for the outcome, which maximises accountability and increases the likelihood of a sustainable outcome.

There are a number of ways your organisation can utilise mediation to address conflict. At the simplest level you can hire a mediator to resolve an isolated interpersonal conflict or go the whole hog and design a bespoke organisation-wide internal mediation service to address more systemic and cultural issues.

How does it work?

In the case of an interpersonal workplace conflict, a mediator, with the informed consent of both parties will facilitate a face to face conversation between the parties in conflict. The conversation is confidential and is informal and normally takes place off site at a neutral location.

The format of the conversation allows both parties to talk about the events that have happened that led to the conflict, describe the impact the conflict is having on them and state what outcomes they would like happen as a result of the mediation – this is an opportunity for the parties to talk as well as listen to each other.

The mediator (that’s me again) is there to manage the process, create a safe environment for the conversation to take place and maximise the likelihood of the parties gaining insight into each other’s situations and creating outcomes that satisfy each other’s needs and interests.

How can I help you?

Well for starters I can help you understand the impact of conflict on your organisation by knowing where to look. You can very quickly build a compelling business case for mediation.

I can help you address and resolve a whole range of conflict that currently interferes with your productivity, effectiveness and goals.

I can help to develop an internal end-to-end mediation service within your organisation, reducing your dependence on external mediators.

I can help develop a bespoke solution to address broader systemic issues arising from organisational conflict.
